In 2023, Memie went in for a routine mammogram. Shortly after, doctors discovered an issue that required further testing. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Lobular Carcinoma in both breasts, along with DCIS In Situ. Quickly the cancer spread and turned into stage 2 early in 2024.
In August of 2024, Memie underwent bilateral lumpectomies. Shortly afterward, she underwent a double mastectomy, followed by three months of chemotherapy and subsequent radiation treatments.
In 2025, after completing the healing process from her treatments, she proceeded with breast reconstruction surgery.
Since her surgery, Memie has endured radiation and chemotherapy. She is currently taking an expensive cancer medication that she must remain on for five years to reduce the risk of recurrence. This medication alone only lowers the risk by about 20%. Doctors attempted to add a second chemotherapy medication to reduce the risk an additional 7%, but this came with serious concerns. Memie has only one functioning kidney, and taking both medications posed significant health risks. Ultimately, doctors determined the risk outweighed the benefit and discontinued the second medication.
As of January 2026, Memie has been told she will need another breast surgery due to complications from her reconstruction. Over the past several months, she has also been battling ongoing illnesses that do not seem to resolve. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy medications have worsened these symptoms rather than helped.
Memie is still recovering financially from her late husband’s medical expenses, and now she faces the growing burden of her own treatments. While she continues to remain positive and strong, the financial strain has become overwhelming.
Memie has touched countless lives and is truly one of the most wonderful human beings we know. We first met her in 2012 at the S.K. Pierce Mansion, where she and her husband, Kenny, helped restore the mansion to the beautiful place it is today. During the restoration, she quickly became close friends with all of us. Memie spent countless days working tirelessly on every inch of the mansion. When she wasn’t there, she worked as a paramedic in Beverly, only to return again afterward. She dedicated five years of her life to this project. Memie gave me some of my most cherished memories, and now it’s time for us to help her.
This is when we come together as a community to support someone who has given so much to others.
Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and help Memie focus on healing rather than mounting bills. Donations will be used to help maintain her household expenses and assist with transportation to and from medical appointments.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser. Your support, love, and prayers mean more than words can express.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping our dear friend through this journey.
